When the price is rising I;d say in general short selling was benign, and just folks making their bets.
Where I have a problem with short selling is where is done in a manner intended to reinforce a downtrend, and/or naked shorting. The predatory shortselling done in packs in 2008 bothered me a lot.
I am all for moderation, and reduction of volatility, therefore I guess I am quite comfortable with people short selling atm.
I might be wrong but I do see a difference.
