Coking coal prices plunge as steel mills cut their orders

New figures show that Australia exported $A4.5bn worth of coal in January 2009, down from $A5.6bn in the last month of 2008. Meanwhile, hard coking coal exports were 36.3 per cent lower than in January 2008. The downturn in demand from steel mills in Europe, Japan and Korea has prompted Australian producers to reduce hard coking coal output
