Don't think there is any manipulation going on here, even if 20% of the volume over the past 5 days was day traders, it is probably just the them getting out at a decent profit in absence of any new news flow to push it higher in the interim.
I am more worried about the VSR comparison although it is more like apples to oranges rather than being apples to apples (but still valid in some sense).
