nice words you've posted this thread. interesting thoughts re timing of entry to a stock. i've recently gone through this thought process myself as i've traditionally been a hard-core fundamentalist.
I've held significant ccu stock for well over 2 years and have progressively sold about half during the run up from under 20c. there were times when holding ccu became very tiresome (bordering painful) as it seemed to just drift lower and lower despite the apparent strong fundamentals. it's very rewarding (intellectually and financially!) when your long term faith in a formerly un-loved stock is validated. although, as you've highlighted, such a purely fundamental approach can involve prolonged stress ...
the only issue I have with your comment is that once you move away from the pure fundamentals (and make friends with the trend) then it's a slippery slope down to being a purely technically-based trader.
