As far as I know, directors and employees of the company have no vote on remuneration/ performance options/ etc. When a salary increase is voted down, salaries remain the same. Will he sabotage shareholder interests as a consequence? if he wants to find himself in the slammer for a few years, then sure he can.
I'd personally like to see more money spent on exploration/development/acquisitions than to see it wasted on salaries; and again, if they think they deserve a larger piece of the pie, then they can buy shares on the market to grab that larger piece... it stihs me that they can even think I'd forgo my piece of the pie for a salary increase for themselves.
