    Averaging down can work well which is why it is an acknowledged trading/investing strategy, however it is undoubtedly high risk.
    After painful, sometimes successful experimentation I believe it's appropriate ONLY if the stock is already making money, because that means you can value it.
    I will never do it again with speccies ie stocks not yet earning - here stops are much better.
