TEE / BEAM update. I rang Ian May, MD, today to discuss a number issues:
First was the status of Telstra;
Second was any potential additional business from Horizon / Thoresen Group,
Third was the status of the EU Maritime Communications Regulations and any flow on business that might come from there;
and Fourth was an update on the Wind Profiler.
1) Telsta : Negotiations are in process. Any additional information beyond that would require an announcement. I pressed for timing on an announcement and he said he could not say. I think that is fair enough on his part. As to the Fin. Rev. article paragraph relating to Queensland and the other states he said that paragraph was a quote from Telstra. Which I took as a positive comment due to the fact that he could not say anymore without an announcement. I pressed the issue on Queensland. He said they were committed to having communication links / devices throughout their highway system and BEAM was in a good position. As to the other states he said that Telstra was committed to fixing the rural communication problem. All in all I think his comments were very positive IMHO.
2) Additional business from Horizon / Thorensen. He said that there are on going discussions with Horizon on providing additional devices to their customers. An important point needs to be made here. BEAM develops these communication devices and companies like Horizon are Communication Services Providers(CSP) for Iridium. Also they were in discussion with companies like Horizon in the US.
3) The status of the EU Maritime Communications Regulations and any flow on business that might come from there. He said that new regulations that will be coming into place in the near term will require all ships in the EU to have communication devices. Please refer to posts 117 and 118 on the TEE OZeStock Board on the EU Maritime Communications Regulations. More importantly he said that he / BEAM were in discussions with European Iridium Communication Services Providers (CSP) to provide BEAM devices to the Maritime industry. I asked which CSP companies they were talking with. One that he mentioned was Frances equivalent to our Telstra. And there were others companies in other countries as well. All in all this side of the business looks good too IMHO.
4) An update on the Wind Profiler. Ian said that negotiations were on going with Airbus and NASA. As I stated in one of my posts that negotiating with these large corporation can take time. He said that a possible contact coming from Airbus first would be most likely due to the airline regulations currently in place. They are a commercial business that need the technology compared to NASA that does research and moves a little slower. Again things sounded good on the Wind Profiler IMHO.
That is all I have today.
Cheers,
Brantley
