Reading up on Ventra and why they went bust came across an interesting comment by the Business Spectator:

they cited Ventra having too many small investors and no big ones.
which makes it much harder to negotiate investments and deals - too many people to convince and bring on board

if you have a couple of big investors ( a la GTS) its much easier to negotiate deals needed for survival (however there is also a flip side)

just a thought
