It was a low-key affair in the middle of the outback, but the significance of the first load of gold-bearing ore being hauled last week from the freshly-opened Genesis pit in the Murchison district of Western Australia will not be lost on analysts and investors who follow Silver Lake Resources.

As well as marking the elevation of the ASX-listed company from the status of “one-trick pony” operating a single gold processing centre fed by multiple mines, Silver Lake has started the transition into a gold producer with multiple processing centres, including its flagship Mt Monger operation near Kalgoorlie, the new Murchison development, and with a third called Great Southern, in the concept stages.
