    I am very aware of the history of the region

    The Ottoman empire was also divided up after WW1, it was not until after WW2 that Israel was formed as even though the it was proposed in the British Manadate at the time of the break up of the Ottoman Empire

    The following is from wikipedia on the formation of Israel, out of the partioning of PALESTINE all of which is irrelevant

    the only way forward is for BOTH sides to accept the existance and rights of the other side, something that BOTH sides are guilty of

    and either form to separate independent states or one state that has a government representative of both sides
