Pegmatite dykes are typically comprised of large sized (scaled) feldspathic crystall mineralisation, along with some quartz and other minerals in lesser concentrations. Their presence indicates a late stage "melt" component at the time of solidification and their crystal size is an indication of the "rate of freezing or solidification. The larger the crystal size - the slower the freezing and the deeper the original depth of freezing as near surface crystallisation produces smaller crystals. Typically these are a nuisance to mining, however the very large crystals can support the argument that the surrounding mineralisation (read graphite) could also have a larger crystal (read flake) size - so its also a good indicator. This type of metallogenic melt is typically hosted in a related mineral assemblage and can strike for some distances - so augers well for stoke continuation. The Balama outcrops are obviously emplaced at depth originally and rate now "exposed" at surface or near surface due to removal of overburden. All these various indicators are key to the understanding of the SYR, MTA (and TON) geology and its exploitation strategy - i.e. targeted high grade, large flake extraction, reduced ore - gangue ratios impacting the economics. To get there - the drilling program needs to be much more advance (in the case of TON/MTA), but there is every chance this is the real deal IMO, market both withstanding.
