I do have a reasonable understanding of IPO's - I've been participating in them for nearly 25 years. Granted, they usually fit into those types of categories. But not always. I could give an example to the contrary off the top off my head. But I understand such examples are not common. Though I do feel your generalisations could be a little misleading for newbies. In the end it is better for me if people don't believe they can get any allocation through retail anyway, since it leaves me a better chance of doing so if I need to apply that way.
