I imagine that if and when gold goes into bubble territory a la nasdaq there will be other asset classes that will be historically undervalued, it would be prudent for long term gold bugs to roll part of there holdings into these undervalued asset classes prior to a top in gold, I also think that it would be prudent for gold bugs to increase the percentage of their PM holdings in physical as the bull market progresses as a bull market in gold means a loss of faith in paper assets and PM shares after all are only paper. That said I expect another 15+ years of good times to come.
