    This effect could be due to latent heat of melting of Arctic and Greenland ice (Antarctica still unresolved as to nett melting)

    For example, ice water - as the ice melts, the water remains close 0 degrees, and the temperature of the water does not increase until all the ice is melted.

    I'll see if I can find some research on it.
