Hi Kins and Trireme, gotta say that this time around shares down does NOT necessarily equal property up.
Usually I'd expect to see $ jumping out of shares & managed funds into property. Hey, it's not an unknown pattern... in fact some call it 'diversification' if it's in anticipation of the swings and roundabouts, or "what the hell is happening to my money" when it's reactive.
But when what's driving the majority of the -ve sentiment in shares is problems in property, that old paradigm is out the window. And if that's not quite right, riddle me this: if it's NOT a US property problem (however broad the cause & effect), what else is caning our sharemarket?
To me it's clear we have to, more than ever, ignore the rampant rampers and blind prognostications. Nothing beats research, unbiased advice, a rational & factual basis for your decision with a healthy bit of gut instinct thrown in.
But right now, I wouldn't bet the house (or my share portoflio) on it.
cheers
