Re toxic assets, that was my memory of the situation, although now having a look back over the announcements and news at the time, it only states that they have some investments that are illiquid and will take a lot of time to liquidate:
"Redemptions from LDF, which operates in the jurisdiction of the United States, will be treated differently. From 31 December 2008, a part of each redemption request from this fund will be transferred to a special purpose vehicle designed to hold less liquid investments until they are liquidated." [23 Dec 08 announcement]
