another idea is to follow molycorp that is ramping up lree production as lynas waits for permission. molycorp wants to cut production costs to $2.77/kg. that is fiction. reality looks quite different: in q2 they were producing at total costs above $50/kg selling la and ce for well above $20/kg. it will be interesting to see what the q3 will look like and how fast they can lower the costs. in any case this example shows that it takes a long time to cut costs to a profitable level.
