Knuckle. We haven't even begun the deepest and most protracted recession since the Great Depression. The current economic malaise is going to worsen considerably over the next year or two and it will take a looooooong time to recover.
This time it looks like no corner of the globe will survive unscathed from the credit crisis, major manufacturing collapses, unemployment, food shortages and other fiscal constraints.
This really is shaping up as a nasty "recession" and I am extremely confident that in such a crisis, as has been demonstrated before, gold will reach heights that currently seem unrealistic.
When you've been around as long as I have and you've lived through 4 recessions already, I believe what I am saying is supported by past evidence.
I believe that 2009 will see the first serious lift in the gold price. Sure there will be significant fluctuations, however, both bullion, and gold stocks will have their very healthy "days in the sun".
As has been witnessed in the past, well positioned gold juniors should show enormous capital gain.
I ask you: Where are you going to put your cash? How are you going to protect your assets, when inflation rapidly diminishes the purchasing power of all currencies (inc treasury bonds)?
There will be a period ahead when the penny will drop and the public will clamor for gold. That time is soon upon us.
If you can position yourself in the near future to take advantage of the pending gold surge, do so.
Exisiting producing gold companies,and/or those with resource backing, as well as any new worthwhile gold floats will be the best place to be. imo.
Keep your eyes open for the opportunities.
I am a realist. I am a latent optimist and believe all the trouble will eventually pass, as it has before, however, it could take a long time before we once again enjoy the halcyon days of the past.
There is a huge amount of trouble on the 2009 horizon!
