This is where things get tricky....I agree with the OP, but I'm also conscious of the fact that if these fires had happened to the same fuel loads 40 years ago there would have been no where near as much devastation due to the ambient humidity and lessened impact of westerlies. While both of these can be accounted for by the IOD, ENSO and SAM combo, the frequency of subsequent positive IODs has increased over time.

The jury might still be out on the cause, but any shift in weather behaviours over that time scale is, by definition, climate change.

Truth be told, it would take another 40 or 50 years to really work out if this is the new norm, but that doesn't mean we can't be prudent as a nation and act with more vigilance.

Unfortunately it means that the political "brand worshippers" from both sides will need to work together a bit more, and a bit of respect for aboriginal cultural practices needs to be incorporated, given they seem to offer a possible "best practice".

While the brand worshippers are at each other's throats fighting for dominion over social control, not much can be achieved. The RFS itself is a testament to what can be achieved from a melange of collectivism and competition. Take either influence out of it and it would be far less effective.

Unfortunately the internet seems to have divided us more than it has united us, and the two brands are at each other's throats more than they are connected.

People need to work out that arguing with someone online about who is right doesnt actually achieve anything beyond a few fleeting seconds of dopamine high or relief from venting.
