reason wa-460-p exists . the hisotry and shell

I have finally had a response from WHL Energy.
It is fairly self explanatory. I questioned how this small block existed and how it pushed into the boundary of WA-384-P.

WA-384-P existed prior to WA-460-P.

Our understanding is that the single graticular block that now makes up WA-460-P was relinquished from WA-384-P as part of a 50% mandatory relinquishment, which occurs every 5 years for offshore Australian exploration permits, which was then subsequently gazetted for work program bid.

We understand that Shell relinquished this block because it is over a deep water canyon which makes seismic interpretation more difficult and would have been discouraging for the industry to bid on it. We also understand that Shell also bid on this block in the 2010 acreage release.
