    Well we have some very simple facts to deal with here. Women benefit very little or nothing at all from being a nun compared with living a married life, as measured in terms of life expectancy. Men benefit greatly from a life as monk, again if we use life expectancy as a measure. I think it is important to understand that the most obvious reason (as a man I can tell you it is extremely common to hear men complaining about the pressure of keeping the wife happy) would be regarded as highly politically incorrect. Academia has a strong inclination towards the left and it would amount to academic suicide to imply that women cause stress to married men to the point of reducing their life span by half a decade (compared with men who voluntarily seek a life without a woman by his side). Ask yourself why it is that we have these sayings like 'happy wife happy life' but no equivalents for keeping men happy...
