My brother in-law uses the term "happy wife happy life" and "what ever Paula wants Paula gets" they are both happy and I don't think he finds it a burden or stress full to do what he does.

Contrast that to a brother who has had 2 long term relationships and is on the third marriage who seem to have the attitude the women is there to make him happy.

As Parsifal said, it really is an individual thing. First we have that individuals are all different, then you have the dynamic of two individuals being together. How well do these individuals get on, how well do they communicate, how much time do they spend doing that and how well do they know and understand each other?
