I dont think that there is any need to prove that Saddam is a ruthless dictator; he refers to Stalin for guidance.

The difference between the US and Iraq is that the US citizens have been successful in killing off their politicians. Saddam (like Stalin) was in favour of taking pre-emptive action against (perceived) potential threats ensuring his continued survival.

It was Stalin that spoiled the UN - during its conception in Washington in 1944 the requirements made by Stalin that all five permanent members of the UN had to vote unanimously before any action (including military) be taken. Stalin did not want France or China to be permanent members but acceded so this demand held them in check. He knew that all five would never agree so he effectively smothered the UN in its cradle.

So you see that in some ways Saddam is finishing off what Stalin started, breaking up the UN and placing countries against each other. And GWB has also helped by dispensing with diplomacy and pushing the military option.

Whats new about this world order?
