Would not surprise me at all if this "leak" was a strategic one aimed at putting pressure on other parties.
It's the oldest real estate trick in the book to make buyers panic at the thought of missing out and increasing their offer or simply signing a contract on the spot.
Obviously if you are going to name a partner in your "leak" one must be sure that they are a serious contender as the risk of loosing them is great.
