That was probably because gold broke down out of its multi month symetrical triangle pattern so traders will see that as a likelihood of lower gold prices.
SLR has dropped too much for the gold price to be the reason but probably explains some of the other gold co's dropping today.
The gold price does not have too much more downside IMO (especially in AUD terms).
