Peter, It rarely occurs that any order you put in for say 10,000 or 1M shares will go through as a single transaction. Often it will take 3 or 4 transactions to make up your order. The very small trades you are seeing are only the final part of a MUCH bigger order. Having said that there are some dudes who will put in very small trades of a couple of hundred bucks like in a betting shop. They are just annoying.
