"We shouldn't have to tiptoe around people just in case some are offended or react in unforseen or violent ways."

To deliberately set out to humiliate, harm and/or confuse another into divulging information which could result in a person losing their job, suffering psychologically, or, in this case, lose their life is not akin to needing to 'tiptoe around people'.

That is kicking them around, big time, not tiptoeing around them!!! Remember this was done on a world stage of many hundreds of millions of people.
