HI. Related to the thread. 35 of the 200 countries at Paris climate change conference this week (together with hundreds of businesses and organisations ) issued a call for country's to take aggressive action on phasing out Fossil fuel subsidies. Currently the subsidies total $490 billion according to International Energy Agency. The Executive secretary of the Unotes Nations Framework Committee on Climate Change said"The huge sums involved globally could be better spent on schools, health care, renewable energies and building resilient societies"
Numerous other international groups gave comparable statistics from subsidies and how these funds could be better allocated.
The pressure is now on govts to redirect these funds which in there simplistic form simply reduce the price of fossil fuels to the end consumer.
