Record Breaking Cold In The UK

    AUGUST 1, 2015

As reported earlier, last night saw one of the coldest July nights in the UK for many years. According to the BBC, a record low of just 1C was set, believed to be 0.9C at Sennybridge in Wales...

CET also shows just how unusually cold it was, following a couple of weeks of well below average night temperatures.

Indeed, at 5.4C, CET has this as the coldest July night since 1965, which happened to be the lowest in the whole daily series since it started in 1878.

Last night was also the fifth coldest July night since 1878. The only colder nights were in 1888, 1902 and 1929

The reason is very simple – the North Atlantic, where our recent weather has been coming from, is now turning very cold...
