    "Three-months tin prices hit a record high overnight for the second session in a row, touching $US18,000 per tonne. The metal ended the day at $US17,950, up $US180 from yesterday's close.

    “It is a market that's starved for supply,” Mr Bhar at UBS said.

    Weekend news that police sealed off a barge loaded with tin ore in Indonesia's main tin-producing Bangka-Belitung islands because it lacked correct papers helped the metal.

    Suspension of all mining in the tin ore-rich Walikale district in Democratic Republic of Congo also added to the supply worries.
