IMO the demographers have a long term view of what Aus population (and its age mix) is needed by say 2050 and beyond. Our reproduction rate is static while our ageing /welfare dependant population is growing (like Japan) so much so, that the Aus economy is not sustainable in the longerterm. IMO the anti-immigration lobby is short sighted and fail to supply forecasts of population/taxation/welfare obligations on a rolling 30 year (generational) basis. Right wing working class populists only think about the the competition that migrants pose to themselves and their immediate famly. If they were concerned about working class wages nationally then it would be in their interests to join a Union whose role is to look after their wages and working conditions nationally. But I suspect that there may be racist undertones here given that the lions share of migrants are Chinese & Indian students and skilled workers. That would hark back to the "White Australian Policy" and we all know how our ageing RW Conservatives hanker for the 1950s...eh? To them I would say...move on....we are part of Asia...not North America because we depend on Asia for a crust and we have to earn to live in Asia as Keating has repeatedly reminded us of! Canada did not ave a "White Canada Policy" and lookat itnow: -40 million people -a member of the G7 Aus is struggling to be a member of the G20 with 26 million people with much better natural resources and climate than Canada.

'Auseconomy is not sustainable in the longerterm' Another idiotic post/concept from the dumb left. What's the end game? Where is the finish line? Fool.
