Gday all, ive just driven home from south west rocks nsw where I had a great weeks holiday and was gobsmacked by petrol jumping from 1.55 in rural nsw to 1.65 over the border in qld, grubby money gouging is the reason for the price jump, and those that want a big Australia population wise need their heads read, clogged highways and water ways up and down the coast, we don't need 40 million.

RECORD petrol prices in Brisbane have been blamed on "greedy" retailers by the state's motoring body.

The average price of ULP yesterday soared to 165.5 cents per litre (cpl), overtaking the previous high of 165.4cpl set in June last year.

RACQ spokeswoman Renee Smith said there was no good reason for the record prices.

"Retailers have failed to spread any festive cheer, instead choosing to take advantage of motorists," she said.
Ms Smith said the current retail margin of ULP was about 16.7cpl, almost 5cpl higher than the motoring group would normally expect.

"Traditionally it isn't an expensive time of the year, it's a bit of a myth. It's more that retailers are being extra greedy this year," she said.

"We've seen prices gradually go up over Christmas and now into the New Year."

There is no relief in sight, with prices tipped to stay above 160cpl into next week.
