Scientists, governments and corporations understand the risk, why can't they? Maybe they are just gullible enough to believe the nonsense they read in right wing echo chambers and Murdoch press. Expect they'll go to their graves / crematoria telling themselves it's just a natural cycle, nothing to do with humans, so there's nothing we could ever have done to change things.
