pre-white colonisation floods happened and none took down the records but geological evidence remains and has been assessed by geologists.

white people came and felled a lot of trees. this resulted in worse flooding as run-off wasn't absorbed by tree roots/soils weren't held together by roots and streams/rivers became silted up causing worsening floods.

in the 60's to 80s the cause of severe flooding was recognised and remediation works begun. as a consequence flooding eased in extent and severity.

now with advanced flood mitigation works in place flooding has again become extreme due to increasingly extreme weather events.

its time you started reading factual material instead of simply swallowing memes without thinking.
