Rio Tinto will spend $215 million on accelerating its push into low-carbon steel, with plans to build a giant microwave facility south of Perth that could one day solve the carbon footprint problem of the Pilbara iron ore industry.Rio’s decision to push ahead with a microwave facility for its “BioIron” project at the Rockingham industrial area is one of the company’s biggest investments in decarbonising the steel industry.
