Putting the usual commie/socialist discussion aside. Matt Moran does not go on to say that the so-called "rednecks" are not uneducated. From a sociology standpoint, the anti-asylum seeker rhetoric is simplistic and uninformed, falling back on falsehoods and stereotypes to win an argument.
As I have said before, lower income Australians have every reason to be bothered by increased asylum seeker arrivals. They have to share their neighbourhoods, workplaces, hospitals and social resources with them at a time of cutbacks and increasing unemployment. Not so, the higher up the socioeconomic tree you climb. Asylum seekers are good for business, real estate and you have private health, separate neighbourhoods and work prospects unaffected.
The point is, if you adopt an uneducated argument, it can be no surprise if you are judged to be uneducated.
