It could be both High Frequency Trading which is akin to algorithmic trading OR parcel orders which some brokers provide as a service and only charge a single Brokerage fee.
For instance if you have 1000 shares in RED, and you wish to unload them over the course of the day, you can set them to flick off a few parcels every second, minute, hour etc.
Personally I don't see any benifit in this unless you are a large holder of a particular security.
