But you'll get the dividend, which should compensate for any fall in share price (all else being equal, which of course it never is from day to day). Also, the dividend will be fully franked, so it might be more valuable to you if you are in a high tax bracket, and you might be able to claim a capital loss on the sale if you are a trader. Some people deliberately buy stocks in order to practise "dividend stripping". See this article:
