So sticking solar farms everywhere and wind turbines everywhere is not the same??
The whole issue is, currently solar is spewing out unregulated making the grid unstable.
The whole point of a generator turbine power station is to provide 24/7 constant regulated power.
Being on every rooftop is a far better environmental solution than to build massive farms of renewable.
BESS are already installed and providing a long duration, stable constance supply. So it's more than feasible me thinks. ;o)
