Try anything wontcha.
OK, the CEC is looking for non lithium battery chemistries. The CEC (and the DOE) are prepared to fund the use of alternative chemistries in some situations where under normal due diligence it would be financially sensible to use lithium based chemistries. The Anaergia site was one of those. Yes you could use a ZBM2 when the time to full discharge is 4 hours but lithium chemistries would have been cheaper to use for the same purpose.
The purpose of the exercise was observe if the Redflow solution met or exceeded the criteria. Could Redflow make enough of the the batteries and storage systems in time and get them to site? Would they perform as advised?
Short answer, seems so. On to the next phase of the trial of the battery and the company. Three projects sent Redflows way, with manufacturing funded and under way for the first.
