That’s only for the first cycle. RTE measures ongoing usage, so you need to know how much you have to put in to recharge it again to 11kWh knowing that it was only drawn down to 5 kWh. If you need to put in 6.8 kWh each time in order to be able to draw down 6.5kWh, then your RTE is 6.5/6.8 = 96%. It doesn’t matter, for RTE calculation purposes, how much is left in the battery when it is discharged. it’s a critical measure because it determines how big a difference between the sale price and the buy price there needs to be before a storage system becomes profitable. Small differences in RTE make a huge difference to a project’s profitability, particularly when pricing forecasts are uncertain.
