baldy1...
Quickflix has just had (and will have) a massive PR injection thanks to Lachlan...this combined with their previous take-up rate should see critical mass reched in due course...they may not be far from it now?
The interest here however is what Lachlan is intending for the bigger picture.
We all know the future lies in downloadable content providers...this is also in the future plans for Quickflix and I think central to the overall picture.
The following is an extract from a news article overnight in India...(see what I mean by coverage)...
"...Quickflix hopes to build a community of film fans who will submit their online reviews. Reports add that its ultimate aim is to compete with the likes of MySpace, which is owned by News Corp.
Quickflix owns online DVD rental company HomeScreen Entertainment, which was founded by Tony Faure, the recently appointed chief executive of Yahoo! Australia and"
Look at the names involved...for that measure, look at the existing board of Quickflix, clearly not some penny dreadful selection here...add Destra and now Murdoch to the mix and you have a pretty compelling argument for a potential success story.
So why did he choose Quickflix?
Well I think it provides and excellent transitional tool...get the punters out of the corner store and onto the internet via the mail-out route. This is very much half way between the real and virtual worlds...arranged online (virtual), delivered to your dor (physical)
Achieve this and you are half way to migrating everyone, including some of the hardest parts of the market, to the virtual world of movie downloads and on-line entertainment.
In the meantime, while we wait for faster, cheaper online deliverabilty (for everyone), you have a captive market...one which also just happens to be moving towards the my-space model.
This is all very achievable...and if other's are any measure of potential value, Quickflix could well turn into a real surprise packet.
Get to the stage where you start to make inroads on the big guys and sooner or later one of them will want to take you out!
Cheers!
