Well guess what, things have changed and were always changing in Europe for those with half a brain. I gather from your post, that you might think it’s too hard to do anything? or at least make the system function with a greater degree of control? Feel free to have a go yourself, rather than just say it’s all too hard. Govts have been sucked into thinking economic growth is everything (so they can borrow more money) rather than make things sustainable. Don't forget, these people vote when they get here. Our budget is already under massive pressure without tens of thousands of more people pa, lining up for handouts. Our housing market is a ponzi scheme without having tens of thousands of more people willing to pay lunatic prices for units in Sydney and pushing out people into other states. Some may simply say its progress, while some might say, its a madness in the long run. Is it working for France? They have a socialist govt or the brink of financial disaster and a brewing problem of epic proportions that is now gathering pace. France was always a fence sitter about the Middle East wars and anti American..meanwhile the radicals don't care and are coming after them in their own country. good luck with that.

Something like this would at least get the politicians of this country off their butts. They would have to decide who would be best to gain entrance by doing proper background checks etc. The smaller number can also be screened more carefully to see if they will integrate, health issues etc. The previous 'Charlie sheen winners club' simple made things worse and pretended it’s all someone else’s fault.
Australia at least has an opportunity to do something before we end up like France or other parts of Europe. If we leave things up to the 'Charlie’s' of this world, we shall all slowly disappear into oblivion.
If I could run two parallel universes, one run by the greens/labor and one run by a group of people who already see the problem and will do something about it, I’ll take the later.
