Refined zinc output up 10.2% year on year in January-April: ILZSG

World refined zinc metal production reached 3.773 million mt in
January-April this year, up 10.2% from 3.424 million mt in January-April 2006,
the International Lead and Zinc Study Group said Tuesday.
Refined zinc metal output increased in a number of countries, most
notably China and Mexico, the ILZSG noted.
Refined metal usage rose 4.4% overall to 3.72 million mt, from 3.563
million mt, in the first four months of last year. Usage of refined zinc metal
fell by 7.1% in the US but increased by 8% in Europe and 8.4% in China, the
ILZSG said.
Meanwhile, increases in China and Peru were the principal factors
contributing to a rise in world zinc mine output of 7.7%, to 3.615 million mt,
from 3.357 million mt in January-April 2006.
