Seeing a little chatter and what appears to be some actual forward movement by a "major" OEM into eye biometrics I thought would revisit an old post of mine from January and repost it in case some missed it. Was just my own analysis at the time - without knowing how much longer we would be suspended unfortunately but I'm still thinking we r on the right track like @redapple at this stage. Just need bloody decent results pls...

    Sorry it's a bit long....have a good one all.

China bound....yep, we are.....discussion....yeah, why not, or we can just wait to see wot comes out I guess?

    SP on open?....who knows.

But we do know it will come down to that next Ann re the “updates” on the China visit with potential clients, development partners, investors etc....based on the action list on the prev Ann, like to think it could have something of substance and the SP will then take care of itself pretty rapidly I suspect as also alluded to by other posters.

So, filling in some time now I have some work around on my lappy and a (sorry. catch up...lol) long post on some info, summaries, possibilities etc below.

Considering that the recent NXR / WBT commentary has been around miniaturisation and the self acquisition mkt (mobiles) I decided to filter stuff based on the Chinese OEMS. The possible candidates we may be approaching given their particular spot in the mkt coupled with their business directions / ambitions and future road map of where they want to be....said b4 IMO, to take on the bigger boys / girls you need that point of differentiation if playing in a similar price / spec point.

A tick of approval from Purdue and my gut feel could be Huawei or Xiaomi may want the tech though Xiaomi just announced their fingerprint supplier in Nov 2015)....plenty other smaller players in the Chinese OEM arena obviously, but other articles I’ve read indicate a lot are feeling mounting pressure to survive and be competitive against the major players.

Info just from what I can find and is in no way conclusive obviously and prob tenuous at best...but I thought interesting reading (if inclined).....whatever happens, have a great 2016 all

    3. Huawei
    4. Xiaomi
    5. Lenovo (inc’s Motorola)

Couple interesting articles around the mkt and Huawei in particular. The first one is April 2015 and general mkt view but an interesting comment re Huawei being unsuccessful est. itself as a global brand but the next article from Jul 2015 advises that Huawei is now the number 3 brand globally behind Apple & Samsung plus some other interesting stats....plus the in between article from Weboo which shows and provides an assumption that Huawei looking at, wanting or working towards iris scanning (not that this has eventuated as yet from what I can find).....hmmmm

Couple the above with some other research from Dec 2015 report where He Gang (President of Huawei mobile) makes some bold statements like (pretty keen to grow):

"We are putting money in all the cutting-edge technology in the communications industry. Huawei is not second to global brands such as Ericsson and Nokia in technology," He said.

"Believe it or not, our goal is to overtake Apple in the near future," He said.”

It’s clear to me that Huawei are also moving in certain directions as this Linkedin profile of Zhou Wel shows - he is Senior Researcher of Huawei Technologies (Sing) and the bit I liked was his main role focus (bold - sure we could assist with that ):

    2015 - present,
    (1) Vehicle Security and Privacy
    Communication security
    Data integrity
    Data Confidentiality
    Authentication
    (2) Biometric-based authentication for smart phone, especially, liveness detection.
    (3) Privacy protection for wearable devices under context aware

    Couple general articles:

GizChina posted in April 2015 this biometric summary article with an interesting statement - not entirely correct so far from what I’ve seen but the last sentence does have merit:

"As smartphones have evolved we have seen manufactures stop competing based on processor cores, screen size, resolution and camera hardware. The next smartphone arms race will be battled out over biometric security."

    Jan 2016:

2016 - 10 things expected from smart phones - though the industry std atm is NIR, that could change obviously - check number 5:

Iris scanning security will hyper-jump from sci-fi movies right into the consumer space
If you thought it's only pass codes, fingerprint scanning, and nothing else in store for the near future, you've got another thing coming! Biometrics is the new big thing in mobile security, and aside from most recent hi-end smartphones having fingerprint scanners popping up at all sorts of places, Microsoft is already giving iris pattern recognition a good push with the Windows Hello feature found in its new Lumia handsets!

The technology to facilitate iris pattern scanning in consumer devices is no longer contained within the realm of science fiction, but is, in fact, very accessible thanks to the miniaturization of infra-red cameras and the advancements in mobile computing power.

So we're keen on expecting iris recognition to become a staple of more hi-end smartphones' security package throughout 2016. Not that fingerprint scanning will become a thing of the past, but iris recognition has the potential to be just as convenient and secure. Great stuff!
