Refractory ore is ore that is sulphide rich and hence not easily processed. In the old days it was roasted in a smelter to turn it into an oxide. The oxide was then treated in a conventional plant. however the waste product is sulphurous gases, which are environmentally bad. Today these gases are used to make sulphuric acid. However for a small project, this is uneconomic.
