I think that communicating your product is really important.
Things don't just sell themselves.
A pitch is closer to a 'real world' scenario than 'check it on its merits'
Sure the teacher might give you a good grade. Or you may have the opportunity to show your research in a paper. But in reality selling, marketing, presenting all are at least equally important as having a good product.
Anyone that's been here for more 24+ months is well aware of the effects of poor presentation.
