Reimbursement of Costs of using SIRT

Hi All,

I understand that using SIRT spheres is quite an expensive proposition for the patients - US$18k/Dose in americas and $16k/dose in Aus - on top of that there would be other hospital fees I imagine.

Can anyone with the knowledge of the american healthcare system shed some light on how affordable is this for the average joe bloke in the US.
1. What kind of medical insurance you would have to be for the gov to reimburse costs
2. What % typically is reimbursed

The reason of asking is that Sirtex emphasizes that they have only scratched the surface of possible market (2% etc) but I doubt all the sufferers of Liver Cancer can actually afford the medicine.

If SIRT spheres become standard of care - does that makes it easier to get reimbursed through the health care system
