There's no doubt that the conversion process will produce pollution, to what degree, it's hard to quantify, as different camps points to different things and different metrics. Obviously, it's never as good as just digging a hole and the black gold (oil) just pops out.
However, being in one central location give them an 'advantage' of doing something about it, be it carbon capture or using algae, etc.
I don't want to sound too hippie like, but with the good margins generated by selling diesel and jet fuel at today's high oil prices, LNC can simply buy a few parcels of the Amazonian rainforest and offset the carbon released.
Better still, set up a LNC Mk 2 company and focus on 'greener' research and energy generation.
