kroll process uses that much electricity that it needs to be subsidised as in Portland alcoca has heavily subsidised power 600 megawatt feed courtesy of Vic gov. and cannot operate without subsidised power, Victorian government has thrown billions at it over 30+ years ... Gladstone comalco has
issues with power i I'm sure it bought the power station at one stage.. so kroll is big big mess make no mistake it's complicated dirty smelly produces volatiles you can smell on wind for 50 100 km away, not to mention fluoride and other nasties
so it's not really the go as power cost at kroll rate of consumption s a huge issue all round in many ways .. kroll / asn process are hardly comparable .. or not comparable .. like comparing junk food food and fresh vegetables one will stuff you dead, one will make you.. kroll will be questioned by many if ksm shines the light.. is it very disruptive process asm owns we will see soon if sucessful .less power consumption is now a critical issue for basic sustainability of any industry oh and kroll also uses gas and massive amounts at that to make the carbon anodes that are made with pitch and thats a fossil product as well . it's a hopeless mess at best is kroll.. if lyc will use kroll it's desperate attempt for desperate countries ambitions the make rare earth metal outside of China... asm has addressed all enviro issues in ree mine to metal .. that's v interesting blah blah blah
